Pitch a piece

We welcome pitches about recreational sport and play that begin with a clear question, a useful distinction or an honest account of an idea worth trying. A strong proposal gives readers a way to think or act without pretending there is one right answer.

What we are looking for

Pitch subjects might include ways to enter an unfamiliar activity, playful formats for informal groups, or the choices that help a game feel inviting rather than intimidating. We favour evergreen ideas that readers can adapt, and pieces that acknowledge where an experiment can fail as well as what it might offer.

Make the pitch specific

Tell us the central idea, who might find it useful and what the reader will understand or be able to try afterward. Explain how your approach differs from familiar advice, and note any specialist knowledge or sources the subject would require. Please do not send a finished article unless we have agreed on it first.

How to send it

Send proposals through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option, making clear that your message is a pitch. Include a short description of the proposed piece and any relevant context; do not include private or sensitive information.

What we believe

Play is allowed to be an experiment

Not every attempt has to become a routine. We value curiosity, room to adapt and the freedom to decide that one game simply was not for you.
